- Tennyson: "The grand old gardener and his Wife smile at the claims of long descent", later changed to "the gardener Adam". Reference to the Garden of Eden, start of a race. Also possibly ties to Cincinattus in that Cincinnatus remained a farmer even after temporarily assuming dictatorship of Rome.
