- misfire: to fail to go off, explode or ignite
- fire: to shoot a missile from a gun → misfire = to shoot wildly → the Black Stone as a missile misfired from Heaven and knocking Tim Finnegan off his ladder → cubehouse
- fire: to bake a brick so as to harden it → a misfired brick crumbled causing Tim Finnegan to fall from the edifice he was building
