- daybreak: one of the 5 set times of day when devout Muslims are obliged to pray → James S. Atherton (The Books at the Wake, pp.210-211) says that the five times are, in order, Midday, Mid-Afternoon, Sunset, Nightfall, and Pre-Dawn → if what time we rise is the first of these, then Joyce is telling us that he generally gets up at midday
