  • Oxmen: according to the Book of Invasions, the followers of Partholón were said to be the first to invade Ireland after the Flood, but the Fomorians were already there: Seathrún Céitinn (Geoffrey Keating) reports a tradition that the Fomorians, led by Cíocal, had arrived two hundred years earlier and lived on fish and fowl until the Partholonians arrived, bringing the plough and oxen. It is possible that this is a memory of Mesolithic hunter-gatherers giving way to Neolithic farmers.
  • Ostmen: Vikings; Danish settlers in Dublin (literally: Eastmen)
  • Oxmantown: Dublin settlement on the north bank of the Liffey which became the Northside
  • Auxies: Auxiliaries during the Tan War (1919-21)??
