  • Fir Bolg: legendary pre-Gaelic invaders of Ireland; they were defeated by the Tuatha Dé Danann in the First Battle of Moytura; their name has been variously etymologised as "Men of Bags", "Men with Spears", "Men of the Thunderbolt"; they have also been connected with the Belgae, Celtic tribes of continental Europe mentioned by Julius Caesar
