  • gilded youths: (jeunesse dorée) the name given to a body of young French dandies who, after the fall of Robespierre, strove to bring about a counterrevolution; today the term is used to describe any offspring living an affluent lifestyle
  • gelded: castrated
  • ewes: female sheep → and therefore incapable of being gelded
