  • A Royal Divorce: a play by W G Wills and G G Collingham [pseudonym of Mary Helen White] and later several silent films (1923, 1926), based on Napoleon's divorce of Josephine so that he could marry Marie Louise of Austria for reasons of state. → Semperkelly'sriverrun
    • This was a popular play of Joyce’s youth so much so perhaps it might be considered humdrum (line 31). Productions featured a rendition of the Battle of Waterloo, with special effects including Pepper’s ghost (460.6) and a big white horse (8.21); the two come together at 214.16.
