The Evening Telegraph in Ireland was launched in 1871 by a former Irish nationalist Lord Mayor of Dublin Edmund Dwyer Gray. The newspaper was unavowedly Irish nationalist in its politics. It was originally a weekly newspaper but soon became daily (except Sundays).

Leopold Bloom sells advertising for the Evening Telegraph in James Joyce's famous novel Ulysses. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evening_Telegraph

It is fitting that the Evening Telegraph is alluded to here (at the onset of evening) in this book of the night.
