Ventriloquism is an act of deception in which a person (ventriloquist) manipulates his or her voice so that it appears that the voice is coming from elsewhere. The Greeks called this gastromancy. Linguists claim that the technique of making sounds while giving away no clues about actually talking must have been discovered thousands of years ago and was aptly used by early chieftains and tribesmen, who acted as mediums between men and supernatural forces. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ventriloquist

Merries: marries, merry. Also "merries" is used in [1:1 6.11] "Mastabatoom, mastabadtomm, when a mon merries his lute is all long. For whole the world to see". This has an obvious sexual connotation (masturbation, erection, exposure).

Perhaps the ventriloquist gives life to the corpse by merging with it and giving it a voice.
