One theory is that the name refers to a church building built of many-colored stones. Falkirk was the site of two important battles, In 1298, Edward I of England defeated William Wallce and teh Scottish uprising. In 1746, Charles Edward Stuart ("Bonnie Prince Charlie") and his Jacobite rebels defeated a government army.
