- Gallipoli (Winston Churchill): there is a lot of veiled anti-British sentiment in this section. FW was published in May of 1939, and Churchill only became Prime Minister a year later in May 1940, after the start of hostilities known as WWII. For many a year Churchill lived with the albatross of the failed Allied attack on the beaches (sandhurst) of Gallipoli, Turkey, around his neck. "Krieg" may reflect not only WWI but the looming threat of WWII, hanging over all of Europe as FW was being written.
