Roundhead

roundhead = supporter of Puritan/Parliamentary revolt in 17th Century English Civil War. Originally a derisive reference to page-boy haircuts popular among Puritans.

Here it also refers, inter alia, to an egghead, Humpty Dumpty.

(The Roundheads' opponents were the Cavaliers, so one would expect that word to appear in some form in Wake's first chapter.)
