Dark Rasa Lane a sigh and a weep

• "My Dark Rosaleen}: a poem by Irish poet James Clarence Mangan. (1803–1849). It is a patriotic poem disguised as a love song, in a time when nationalistic expression was outlawed in Ireland. Thus the name is a poetic symbol of Ireland.

  O MY Dark Rosaleen,	 
  Do not sigh, do not weep!	 
  The priests are on the ocean green,	 
  They march along the deep.	 
  There 's wine from the royal Pope,	         5
  Upon the ocean green;	 
  And Spanish ale shall give you hope,
