- Jubilee: In Judaism, the Jubilee (Hebrew yovel יובל) year is the year at the end of seven cycles of shmita (Sabbatical years), and had a special impact on the ownership and management of land in the Land of Israel
- Jubilee: in Catholicism, a special year for the remission of sins and a general pardon. In Joyce's lifetime there was a Jubilee in 1900.
- Golden Jubilee: The 1887 celebration of the 50th year of Queen Victoria's reign. Notably, there was a plot by Irish-American and Irish Fenaians to blow up Westminster Abbey during a service of thanksgiving for the jubilee, presumably killing Victoria, her family, and much of the British establishment. The plot was discovered and stopped. A forged letter unsucessfully tried to implicate Irish politician Charles Stewart Parnell in the plot.
- The Irish Jubilee: A popular Irish-American comic song (1890) that begins:"A short time ago an Irishman named DochertyWas elected to the Senate by a very large majority." The song recounts a party for the electors thrown by the senator, with eating, drinking, and dancing, not unlike the song "Finnegan's Wake".
