- St Brendan and the Whale: an episode in the Voyage of St Brendan the Abbot, in which the saint and his colleagues mistake a whale for an island in the ocean; they go "ashore", but when they light a fire on the animals's back it wakes up and they are forced to beat a hasty retreat! → St Brendan is named (Brénainn of Cluain-fearta) in the Annals of the Four Masters under the year 1132 A.D.
