Whole in the wall

• hole in the wall (American slang): a small, dingy, or shabby place
• The Hole in the Wall: a pub at the Cabra Gate of Phoenix Park (established in 1651). The name reportedly comes form serving drinks through a hole in the wall, especially to British soldiers on duty in the park
• whole: perhaps an allusion to Humpyy Dumpty, who could not be made whole after falling off the wall.
