Richard Wagner's opera Der fliegende Holländer (The Flying Dutchman) opens with a horn call representing the Dutchman. The heroine Senta's principal aria, Senta's Ballad, also features a horn – an English horn, which is a species of oboe (oboboes). The opera is set in Norway (fjord and fjell).
