"I am quite content to go down to posterity as a scissors and paste man for that seems to me a harsh but not unjust description". (JJ in a letter to George Antheil, 3 January 1931)

Instances of textual appropriation appear throughout FW. Some are signaled as such, as in the case of non-English inclusions set in italics, or of aphorisms, song titles, and literary quotations which can be easily distinguished from the surrounding prose. Other appropriations are covert, and are not labeled with an explicit difference in punctuation or tone as having come from an external source.

This category catalogs instances of both these sorts of literary inclusion, as well as of instances of the theme of appropriation, plagiarism, and literary borrowing.
