- cowrie shell: Ignatius Donnelly, Irish-American, Civil War era Congressman from Minnesota, who wrote several books including one on Atlantis (1882). Cowrie shell is a reference to his underwater calling card. Atlantis is illustrative of Viconian cycles. Donnelly went on to write The Great Cryptogram(1888), which claimed that Shakespeare's works were written by Francis Bacon.
