Lat. Delenda est Carthago, 'Carthage must be destroyed.' The Roman senator Cato the Elder is said to have ended every speech in the Senate with the words, "Ceterum censeo Carthaginem esse delendam": "Furthermore, I believe Carthage is to be destroyed." He got his wish at the end of the Third Punic War, when the city was razed and the surviving inhabitants enslaved and taken away.
