Earwig on a fullbottom

Jump to navigationJump to searchThe earwig is obvious, but the 'wig' portion also refers to fullbottom. A full bottom wig was one style (of many) in the 18th century. It is tightly curled, reaching down past the shoulders. A good example can be seen in many portraits of Louis XIII of France, who popularized it.
