Endocrine-pineal

• endocrine-pineal gland: a small endocrine gland in the vertebrate brain. Its functions was long unknown, and it was believed in humans to be the link between material and spiritual worlds, It is now known to produce the melatonin, a hormone that affects the modulation of wake/sleep patterns and seasonal functions. Its shape resembles a tiny pine cone (hence its name).
