  • Grace before meals: (or Grace before meat) a short prayer giving thanks to God for one's food, usually including the line, "For what we are about to receive may the Lord make us truly thankful" → cp. this with the following sentence: "For what we are ... about to believe" → "Grant us grace for what we about to receive"
  • glutton: to eat greedily and voraciously
  • mutton → the traditional meat in Irish stew
