• Hijri - name for the Islamic calender used to date events in many predominantly Muslim countries. The final month of the year is called Dhu al-Hijjah and in this month, the Hajj Pilgrimage takes place. Joyce uses "He" to insinuate that HCE is leaving the country for a pilgrimage, to get away from the stress of his trial.
