Lone Coogan Barry

• "Gougane Barra": a poem by Irish poet J. J. Callahan (1795–1829)

     There is a green island in lone Gougane Barra,
     Where Allua of songs rushes forth as an arrow;
     In deep-valley'd Desmond - a thousand wild fountains 
     Come down to that lake from their homes in the mountains.

• kevin Barry: (1902 – 1920) the first Irish republican to be executed by the British since the leaders of the Easter Rising. Barry was sentenced to death for his part in an IRA operation which resulted in the deaths of three British soldiers.
