Jump to navigationJump to search- The patient Griselda: (earlier called Grizzel in English) a figure from folk tale who is the model of the patient and obedient wife, obedient even when treated with appalling cruelty by her aristocratic husband. Versions by Boccaccio, Petrarch, and Chaucer, among many others, exist.
- gristle: cartilage (probably another masturbation reference)
- Grizell Steevens: benefactor of Dr Steevens' Hospital, at South Lane and St John's Road. Often called "Madame Steevens'." Dr Richard Steevens died in 1701, the day after bequeathing his estate to his sister Griselda for her lifetime, then to build a hospital. She turned over the estate to trustees to build the hospital at once, keeping 150 pounds a year and an apartment in the hospital. She always went veiled and was said to have a snout like a pig.
