Nance

1) 'Agnes' (lamb, as in 'Agnus dei') became 'annis' in vulgar Latin, and therein evolved to Ancy and Nancy in Fr.

2) Nancy in the sense of 'homosexual or effeminate' man was first registered, acc. to the Online Etymology Dictionary, in 1904, so maybe it should not be discarded either.

3) Nancy is also one of Charles Dickens' characters in Oliver Twist, a girl that, from a very young age, was introduced to the world of the illicit by a criminal called Fagin and then handed over to Bill Sikes (another delinquent) and ends up being a prostitute. This contributes to the interpretation of the hermit raping/forcing ALP.
