Poplin

• poplin: a strong fabric in a plain weave of any fiber or blend, with crosswise ribs that typically gives a corded surface. It traditionally consisted of a silk warp with a weft of worsted yarn. In 1775 the manufacture was introduced into Ireland, by French Huguenot refugees , and from that time to the present, Irish poplin has been famous. The genuine Irish poplin, made at Dublin, is a light weight variety, and is sometimes called single poplin.
