  • A reference to an encyclopedia, suggesting that the beginning can be found in the end. This, of course, ties in rather well with the cyclical nature of much of the book and references contained herein.
  • Noah and the ark--after the Flood, God gave Noah the promise He would never flood the world again by putting the rainbow in the sky. Joyce also refers to rainbows from the beginning ("to the rory end the regginbrow", 3.14-15).
  • perhaps also referring to the wake as an circular abecedarian. its circular nature is much, noted, and patterns that are abecedarian in nature are noticed at variouis points.
