Commentary
"Londonderry, Cork and Kerry" is the opening of an Irish riddle: "Londonderry, Cork and Kerry, spell me that without an 'R.'" While the answer to the riddle is "T-H-A-T" ("spell me 'that' without an 'R'"), Joyce has notably articulated the riddle's trick phrase, its list of three Irish cities, without an R.
