- Both Tristan and St. Patrick came to Ireland twice.
- Patrick came first as a captive, and was sold into slavery. He escaped back to Britain, was ordained in France, and returned to Ireland in 432 as a missionary.
- Tristan first came to Ireland (Chapelizod) having been weakened by a wound received from Isolde's brother, whom he killed in battle, and was nursed back to health by an unknowing Isolde. His second arrival was as a courier, delivering Isolde to King Mark of Cornwall.
