• July: July Crisis 1914, initiated with the assassination in Sarajevo, started WWI.

• Yugoslavia: by end of WWI, Sarajevo was in the newly created state of Yugoslavia, itself a "mini-U.S.E." of Southern Slavs, part of the territory for which came from Austria, "paid" at Versailles courtesy of Britain, France and US (Allies).

• Yugoslavia, a Balkan confederation; U.S.E., the European confederation; and the League of Nations/UN, a world confederation, are similar ideas on larger scales.
