  • The patient Griselda: (earlier called Grizzel in English) a figure from myth who is the model of the patient and obedient wife, obedient even when treated with appalling cruelty by her aristocratic husband. Versions by Boccaccio, Petrarch, and Chaucer, among many others, exist.
