• a "duo of lentils": two peas, the twins Shem and Shaun, corresponding to Jacob and Esau in the biblical book of Genesis. Esau, the first-born twin, returned from a hunt obne day both exhausted and famished. He declared that he would "despise his birthright" for the lentil porridge his brother was cooking. Jacob gave him the food in exchange for an oath from Esau that he would indeed give up his right to rule.
